Chan Wing-yee

Chan Wing-yee obtained a Grade 8 piano certi cate from the Royal Academy of Music at the age of fourteen. Inuenced by her mother, Kwan Miu-mei, she developed an interest in Cantonese Opera and joined the Elite Cantonese Opera Troupe. She took vocal training classes under renowned music maestro Lai Tin-sang and in 1989, went to the Guangdong Cantonese Opera School to further her training. She later honed her vocal skills with Chan Wai-ling and Chan Woon-lun and trained in Northern School martial techniques under masters Yam Tai-fun, Yeung Kim-wah, Yuen Mo, and Hon Yin-ming. She also trained with Chan Siu-wah and renowned Kunqu opera artist Liang Guyin. Since 1992, she has collaborated with many leading performers from both Hong Kong and mainland China, taking on the role of principal huadan (leading female role) in various major troupes. Chan has been a council member of the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong since 2001 and is currently the Vice Chairperson of the 40th Committee. In August 2009, she joined the Evergreen Foundation as Vice Chairperson, actively contributing to charitable work in the community.
