He Wenxiu Reunited with His Wife

Scholar He Wenxiu sells his drawings for his living, it is barely enough for his living, but he is happy as he has a lovely wife, Wang Lanying. The landlord Zhang Tang wants Wenxiu's wife, so one day he sets Wenxiu up to be sent into the army, and to make sure he won't come back the landlord also attempts to bride the escort Wang Ding to stab Wenxiu in the back.

Wang Ding is disgusted by what Zhang Tang did and would like to help Wenxiu. While Wenxiu is sent to army, Zhang Tang makes his move and forces Lanying to marry him, Lanying masks her attempt to kill him with a false promise and it ends in a failed assassination.

Three years has gone by. Wenxiu scores top in the imperial examination and finally comes back, while knowing nothing of the forced marriage, for her beloved wife Wenxiu.

With all that happened, will the two still be able to be together?
