Performance Introduction

During a scenic tour of the Mount Huashan, Liu Yanchang misses lodging opportunities and ends up writing poetry on the walls in the temple of the Holy Matron. Inadvertently, he meets up with the Holy Matron in the flesh. After falling in love with Yanchang, the Matron gives him a jewel belt as a seal of love. Returning from a tour of the heavens, the demigod Erlang, Brother of the Holy Matron, discovers his sister is in love with a mortal. At the couple’s child Chenxiang’s month-old birthday, Erlang sends Howler, the Celestial Hound to steal the Lotus Lamp from her, and arrives with the sky troops for a punitive quest, placing the Holy Matron under custody in the Mount Huashan. Listening to the Matron's bidding, Yanchang marries Huang Guiying to bring up Chenxiang, and nurtures another child, Qiuer. It comes to pass that one day, while defending their friends, the siblings cause the death of the son of the Imperial Academician. Guiying asks Yanchang to escort her own blood to the court for disposition. Chenxiang then sets out to rescue his own mother. With the help of Lingzhi, Chenxiang masters the Axe of God, defeating Erlang, retrieving the Lotus Lamp, splitting the Mount Huashan, and saving his mother for family reunion.
