Performance Introduction

The wind blows away Li Sanniang’s handkerchief and leads her to the stable, where she encounters the down-and-out Liu Zhiyuan. Regardless of Zhiyuan’s poverty, her father approves their marriage. However, instigated by his wife, Sanniang’s brother, Hongyi forces Zhiyuan to divorce Sanniang after the death of their parents. This leads to the separation of the Li’s family. Hongyi allocates the poor melon field to Sanniang as her share of their parents’ legacy. Unexpectedly, Zhiyuan gets a sword and a book on military strategy in the melon demon infested field and he determines to join the army. This leaves Sanniang no choice but to live with Hongyi’s family. Being maltreated, Sanniang has to bite the umbilical cord off by herself in her delivery. Taking pity on his sister, Hongxin volunteers to take the newborn baby to look for his father. Hongxin arrives at Jiuzhou and reunites the father and son. Yue Xiuying, daughter of the Marshal, loves Zhiyuan but he loves his wife. Zhiyuan match Xiuying with Hongxin instead. Years later, Zhiyuan is ennobled and returns to his homeland with his son Yaoqilang. While hunting for a hare, Yaoqilang comes across Sanniang by a well. However, the mother and son don’t know each other. Learning Sanniang’s news from his son, Zhiyuan sets out to meet his wife and gives Sanniang a gold seal. Seeing Sanniang’s gold seal and Zhiyuan’s prestigious status, Hongyi and his wife try hard to flatter them but are reproached by Zhiyuan. Yaoqilang reunites with his family finally.
