Performance Introduction

Discovering their stepmother Sanchun’s affair with Tian Wang, Guizhi and her younger brother have to escape. Guizhi’s father Li Qi, a horse merchant, comes home and interrogates the maid Chunhua for the whereabouts of the children. Unable to bear the torture anymore, Chunhua hangs herself. The adulterers seize the opportunity to accuse Li Qi of attempting rape which causes the death of Chunhua. They even bribe the county magistrate to sentence Li Qi to death.

On the other hand, Guizhi is adopted by the Liu’s family. Later on, she marries the magistrate of Baocheng County, Zhao Chong, whose sister Lianzhu looks like Chunhua. After Zhao Chong goes to the rural area to encourage the farmers to sow, Lianzhu hears Li Qi crying over his grievances in prison and recites it to Guizhi. Finding out the wrongness done on her father after private inquiry, Guizhi exposes the truth to Zhao Chong in tears. Chong then prepares the petition for her to barge into the court and file the case to the inspector general.

The inspector general turns out to be no one but Guizhi’s brother Baotong. Fortunately, Lianzhu disguises as Chunhua’s ghost and frightens the adulterers into admitting their crimes. Finally, not only the father’s innocence is proven, but also Li’s family are happily reunited with Baotong marrying Lianzhu.
