Performance Introduction

Chu Ziyu, the champion of the Jin imperial examination for both civil and military officers, becomes Princess Jinfeng’s favourite and is designated by Duke Huai to be the consort prince. However, King Xiang of Zhao hears of her beauty and sends a letter to propose marriage. Infuriated by his envoy being expelled, he leads his troops to attack Jin. Jinfeng gives Ziyu her armlet as a love token when he sets off for the battlefield unwillingly.

Ziyu loses and flees because King Xiang is so brave and skillful, and he sends someone to return Jinfeng the armlet. Unexpectedly, the messenger is killed on the battlefield. Jinfeng believes that Ziyu is dead, so she and Yinfeng plead with Duke Huai to let them die for their chastity when the Zhao soldiers invade the royal city. However, King Xiang threatens with a massacre and Jinfeng desperately gives her consent to the marriage.

On the way to Zhao with King Xiang, Jinfeng picks up the armlet at the collective tomb and comes across Ziyu who has become a bandit. Ziyu then disguises as a brave warrior to infiltrate into the Zhao palace but King Xiang sees through the trick and forces him to beat Jinfeng up. Fortunately, Duke Huai and Yinfeng succeed in seeking help from other Dukes and thus, Ziyu and Jinfeng are finally reunited.
