Chin Shan is under the tutelage of Man Chin-sui and Leung Siu-sum, two veteran Cantonese opera artists. She has been studying Cantonese opera since she was 12 years old, with a specialization on male roles. Chin Shan was graduated from University College London with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Linguistics in 2013, and received her second Bachelor Degree at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts in 2017 in Bachelor of Fine Arts in Chinese Opera. She won the "Best Student Award" and the " Director’s Award”. In addition, Chin Shan completed her Master Degree at the Central Saint Martins School in 2020. After graduation, she joined the "Young Cantonese Opera Troupe ", then established her own workshop called "Shan Opera." Chin Shan is a full-time Cantonese opera actress currently.
