Brenda Chiu

Specializing in female roles. Chiu has been active in the industry for over 30 years. She graduated from Hon Fung Cantonese Opera Institute. She was apprenticed to the eminent artist Leung Hon-Wai. She has been a student of Yam Tai-fan, Chiu Yan-yu, Tsang Yuk-nui, Chan Kim-fung, Susanna Cheng and Wong Wai-ling. Ever since she joined the Young Talent Showcase, she studies vocal performance under the renowned vocalist Lilian Yeung Lai-hung. 

  • What is/are your most coveted role(s)?
    Old female roles like the Empress Dowager in Goddess of the Luo River and Mrs. Choi in Tale of the Pipa. Young child roles like Young Prince in the Return of Lady Wenji and Zhao Xilang in the Lady’s Sash.
  • What is your quest in art?
    I would like to play a broader range of characters, roles from different age groups and different walks of life.
  • What has been your greatest reward since joining our Young Talent Showcase?
    Being able to take vocal lessons specifically tailored for female role vocals. Under the guidance of Ms. Lilian Yeung Lai-hung, my vocals have seen significant improvement. I was given the opportunity to perform in a concert which was my first.
