Crying on the Erlang Bridge

One night, when Tse-cho(Xiezu) returns home after meeting his lover Chun-heung(Chunxiang), he crosses the plank across the river as usual. The plank breaks and Tse-cho falls into the river. Tse-chos brother Yiu-cho(Yaozu) rescues Tse-cho, but Yiu-cho has hurt his face and arm. To help his brother to meet his lover, Yiu-cho starts to build the Erlang Bridge (Erlang means the second son).

Ten years later, the brothers' uncle Lee Tong-hin(Li Tongxuan) buys a wife for Yiu-cho, which is Chun-heung selling herself. Yiu-cho finds out his wife is the lover of his brother on the wedding night, so he writes a letter and leaves to join the army. However, the letter is torn by his cousin Mei-chu(Meizhu).

Tse-cho see Chun-heung off to visit her mother, but he leaves Chun-heung alone to continue her way in the Ten miles pavilion. Ga Wah(Jia Hua) appears and tries to harass Chun-heung, but is hurt by her when she defends. Ga Wah accuses Chun-heung and Tse-cho of having an affair. Chun-heung pleads guilty for murdering Ga Wah, to put her lover away from the crime scene. Can the lover reunite after these ups and downs?
